GoToSocial is a new kind of Fediverse server which emphasises lightweight software and strong user safety. It’s currently in beta testing.
If you’re a techy person who likes to install their own servers, you can find out more from the official GoToSocial website ⧉.
If you’re a non-techy person but you want to set up your own GoToSocial server, they are available through managed hosting on FediHost ⧉. Managed hosting means the hosting company does all the techy stuff for you.
Some of the safety features on GoToSocial include reply controls so you can decide who is able to reply to your posts, and optional allowlists (where the server blocks all other servers, and just chooses to allow some to federate with them).
GTS is also unusual because it doesn’t include an official website interface, it can only be used through third party apps, or with a third party web interface if the server admin has installed one. Fortunately, GoToSocial supports the Mastodon API which means it can be used through any Mastodon app, and there are lots of those for all types of device ⧉.
