If a post is boosted by a lot of people, you may see it repeatedly in your timeline. This can be annoying if you’re tired of seeing it.
There is already a feature in Mastodon to prevent this happening, called Group Boosts, and it is on by default. You don’t need to do anything to switch it on. It is hardcoded to allow boosts to repeat after 80 other posts have been in your timeline.
Is there any kind of workaround that I could use to prevent seeing a particular post?
There’s nothing that directly adjusts the 80 post number. However, if there’s a post you really want to stop seeing, you might want to try using filters to hide an over-boosted post.
Can I hide all boosts from everyone?
Yes, here’s how to hide all boosts from any account:
- Log in on your server’s website or web app
- Click the < > double-arrow icon in the top right corner of your main timeline (also known as “Home”)
- Toggle the option for Show Boosts so that it’s off
Bear in mind this would hide ALL boosts including boosts you’ve never seen before.
What if I see one particular account boosting too many different boosts?
If you just want to hide boosts by one person, you can completely hide the boosts made by specific accounts.

For a long time Mastodon allowed boosts to repeat after 40 other posts. However, in 2026 they changed the limit to 80 other posts, so this should reduce a lot of repeated boosts.
