How to play games on the Fediverse

There are two main types of games on the Fediverse: hashtags and interactive bots.

Games run by interactive bots

There are lots of games run by automated accounts on the Fediverse. Some of them are collaborative where people vote on what to do next, while others are individual challenges. Some are simple while others are elaborate.

You can find interactive bot games listed on Fedi.Directory ⧉. To take part, copy-paste a game’s Fediverse address into the search box in Mastodon etc, then follow it. There may also be additional instructions on the game’s profile page.

Hashtag games

These are freeform events where someone sets a challenge with a particular hashtag, and people reply with their submission and the challenge’s hashtag. There’s no prize or points or anything, it’s just an excuse for people to think of funny things together 🙂

  • To see the games follow the account @hashtaggames@hashtaggames.online and follow the hashtag #HashtagGames
  • To take part, use both the hashtag suggested by the game account and also include the general #HashtagGames hashtag (using both hashtags is important as it means people can filter out these posts if they don’t want to see them)

I don’t want to see posts about these games in my timeline

If you don’t want to see any hashtag games posts, use Mastodon’s filter system to hide posts with the hashtag #HashtagGames
