You can automatically crosspost on Mastodon and other social networks using third party services. Crossposting means you can post the same content on several social networks at once.
This can be controversial if you’re just posting to Mastodon without interacting on Mastodon at all. Some servers specifically ban such “zombie accounts”.
Which crossposting services are available?
Professional paid crossposting services such as Buffer ⧉ and Publer ⧉ offer crossposting services compatible with many social networks including Mastodon.
Are there only paid services between Mastodon and Twitter/X? I thought there were free crossposting services too?
There used to also be free crossposting services between Mastodon and Twitter/X, but Elon Musk’s management started charging for Twitter/X’s API access which meant only paid services were viable.
Can I schedule posts without using a crossposting service?
Yes! Mastodon has its own built-in scheduling service which is free and can be accessed through third party apps.
Should I monitor my account if it is posting content automatically?
Yes! Your followers will want to reply to your social media posts, and it is a good idea to react to what they say.
However, if it isn’t possible for you to monitor your accounts, please mark them as automated through Mastodon. This lets people know that you’re posting in one direction only.
Are there any Fediverse platforms which include built-in crossposting on other networks?
Yes, Friendica is built to support many different protocols including ActivityPub (which is the one Mastodon uses). This means you can post on Friendica and set it to post on many different networks at once. However, this does not include any networks that charge for API access, such as Twitter/X.
